true that some programs need to be reinstalled, because even you have change the path but for some program they will still leave some file in the default C:Program Files.

however most programs should run fine even without having the registry listed. that being said, reinstall a program is always better off than reinstall the whole OS.

one of the features doesn't technically work. even though you can install programs to a second partition, programs still rely on the registry on the OS partition. So, when you reformat the OS partition (for whatever reason), you'll still need to reinstall all your programs because there will be missing registry components that each of the programs need.

Could you please give us precisions about the upgrade to Windows 7 final release from a 7100 evaluation version ?

I've read the upgrade is only possible to the Ultimate version. To upgrade to Premium the better seems to format the disk with Windows 7 R.C, and loose all programs and drivers installed on this disk.

Of course your solution of a dedicated partition is better but comes too late for me. I've installed 7 R.C on my Asus He 1000 without problem. But now if I want to upgrade to final version, it's another story.
