WLWBackup is a free open source backup utility specifically developed for those who use Windows Live Writer as the blogging tool, like us. It’s not a brand new tool, slightly over 2-year-old, but still considered as a fairly useful life saver.

Windows Live Writer Backup not only backs up blog posts, Live Writer plugins, but also backs up Blog settings, such as Blogs templates and link glossary. It could save you tremendous time when needed to set everything up from scratch.

You can save the backup to wherever you like, preferably the place included in your daily or weekly backup routine so that it can be stored in your external storage rather than locally on the computer.

When restore, simply select the backup file from the windows dialog box. Use restore with a caution because it won’t let you restore individual blog settings or posts, rather it restores the whole thing and overwrites what’s on your computer.

If you are blogging using Windows Live Writer, you should use this tool periodically back up your local blog data. If you are blogging not using Windows Live Writer, you should start considering switching to it, unless you are not using Windows.
